So the BNP got some MEPs

Interesting that lots of people seem to care that the BNP had two of their number elected as MEPs. Maybe if they had actually voted in the election (about 70% didn't bother) they might have stopped them. The BNP needed 8% of the vote in the North West to gain a seat and achieved that with fewer votes than they received last time.

Basically, Labour voters stayed away from the poll and let in their arch-enemy. What a shower! What part of democracy don't people understand? Proportional representation means you get what you vote for. If you vote for nobody you might elect a nobody.

UKIP did well because they actually stand on a platform relevant to the EU. People care, so people vote. I didn't see any canvassing from the major parties on EU issues. If they'd bothered, they might have got more votes - and kept out the BNP.
